OWNER | CREATIVE DIRECTOR. A lifelong artist and Frederick native, Nikkie fell in love with cake decorating as a child, starting with weekend classes alongside her mom and sister. What began as a hobby quickly became a calling, refined over two decades of hands-on experience, curiosity, and creativity. Today, she leads Sage Cakery with a focus on thoughtful design, managing the custom order intake and guiding the cake creation process from concept to celebration. As Creative Director of Sage Cakery, she leads with vision, authenticity, and a fierce commitment to community. Proudly rooted right here in the heart of Frederick.
Kurtis
CO-OWNER | LEAD BAKER. Nikkie's amazing partner in life. As if he wasn't amazing enough already (as a partner to Nikkie and a father to their little lady, Mazie Rue;) Kurtis has moved mountains to support Nikkie in pursuit of her dreams. We wouldn't be here today without his love and dedication. Once a roofer, Nikkie taught him how to bake, and turns out he’s pretty darn good at it. Kurtis is now our lead baker and production manager here at Sage!

WEDDING COORDINATOR
A distinguished graduate of L'Academie de Cuisine, who brings over a decade of cake decorating experience to Sage Cakery. With a rich background in some of the most prestigious bakeries, including the renowned Earth + Sugar in West Palm Beach, Florida, she has honed her craft to perfection. Her extensive experience as both a decorator and a connoisseur of sweets makes her the perfect guide to curate your cake and dessert vision. Whether it’s an intimate gathering or a grand celebration, she is dedicated to bringing your unique ideas to life with style.
Lauren
LEAD DECORATOR | MASTER CAKE SORCERESS A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in New York and former Sous Chef for the renowned José Andrés, Lauren brings both precision and creativity to everything she does. A true artist at heart, she found her passion in cake decorating and honed her craft in Beverly Hills, CA, where she worked as a decorator for high-end clientele. At Sage Cakery, she leads the decorating team with vision, skill, and a deep love for the art of cake, made even sweeter by working side by side with her life and work bestie, Kristen.
Kristen
MASTER CAKE SORCERESS With a spatula in hand and buttercream at the ready, Kristen is our go-to for silky smooth finishes and flawlessly crisp edges. A sculpting savant and a genius at color matching, her cakes are edible works of art. Kristen thrives in the creative flow of the kitchen, especially when collaborating with her decorating bestie, Lauren. Together, they make magic happen, one cake at a time.
Mina
ASSISTANT DECORATOR Mina brings both artistry and heart to Sage Cakery. A self-taught decorator, she’s honing her skills with every cake while always ready to jump in wherever she’s needed — a true team player. With a natural “mama hen” energy, Mina not only supports her teammates but also ensures every guest feels cared for. Her warm spirit and customer service skills shine just as brightly as her growing decorating talents, helping us create an atmosphere as sweet as our cakes.
Abbie
ASSISTANT DECORATOR With a Baking & Pastry degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Abbie is growing her skills as a cake decorator while already shining in the details. She’s known for her precision, steady hand, and makes an epic pastry cream! When she’s not in the kitchen, Abbie is likely at a concert, especially if The Weeknd is on stage.
