Nikkie
OWNER | CREATIVE DIRECTOR. A Monrovia native and a graduate from Urbana High School. Since her very first job making donuts at age 14, she knew that she had a passion for baking. At that point the entrepreneur fire starting burning within her. At 18 she took a couple of basic cake decorating classes at Michaels, and continued to teach herself and fine tune her skills as the years went on.
Her passion started to shift some when she entered herb school, as her interests in health and wellness were growing. After school she considered continuing with clinical training to become a registered herbalist, but her creative and artistic side was calling her name, and Sage Cakery was born. While continuing to make her traditional flavors that everyone knows and loves, she loves to create new recipes that incorporate more powerful flavors from herbs and spices.
Nikkie really enjoys the art and creative expression in cake decorating, and loves connecting with new people. She continues to practice herbalism.
Kurtis
CO-OWNER | LEAD BAKER. Nikkie's amazing partner in life. As if he wasn't amazing enough already (as a partner to Nikkie and a father to their little lady, Mazie Rue;) Kurtis has moved mountains to support Nikkie in pursuit of her dreams. We wouldn't be here today without his love and dedication. Once a roofer, Nikkie taught him how to bake, and turns out he’s pretty darn good at it. Kurtis is now our lead baker and production manager here at Sage!
Faith
LEAD DECORATOR | CAKE SORCERESS L’Academie de Cuisine graduate and award winning cake artist. As our lead decorator here at Sage Cakery, there isn’t anything that this girl can’t do. She absolutely loves to create for you and while being well rounded in her experience, she also isn’t afraid to try something new. The epitome of true dedication, we are incredibly blessed to have her on our team.
Luke
ASSISTANT BAKER. Master of frostings. Really though, he is! Luke is our assistant baker and also helps out in the front of the house as well. He’s an all around great team mate and loves to learn new things. As a full time college student, we are only able to have Luke part time but we appreciate him every second that he’s here!
Ally
FRONT OF THE HOUSE LEADER | ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT. Full of sunshine and magic, you’ll likely be greeted by this face as soon as you walk through our doors. She is full of product knowledge and is super helpful in starting the ordering process with you for your next event. She is a true blessing to us, and Nikkie's right hand admin goddess.
Micayla
ASSISTANT DECORATOR. Micayla is a student of Frederick’s Career and Technology Center, in their culinary arts program. She’s a go getter with dreams of heading to Johnson & Wales in the future, and we see her going far, like really far. Micayla is a whole mood, a really upbeat one, and we are so grateful to have her on our team.
